We’re three months into not receiving a monthly paycheck, and honestly – we’re starting to feel the pressure. The doubts keep creeping in, but we’re still committed to making this work. Here’s a quick overview of how we experienced our third month of being self-employed.
Some fun highlights of this month:
- We went on two different trips: a family city trip to Budapest and a very intense hike in Luxembourg
- We finally published our very first interview for our Passion In Focus project
- We reached out to Decathlon again (still a negative answer, but good for us for trying)
- We found some new prospects to interview for Passion In Focus
- FINALLY posted the video about the Wicklow Way (it took us sooooo long to edit and go through the hours and hours of footage)
- Finally received our DJI Osmo Pocket – it’s an absolute game changer for us!
Our challenges this month:
- We realized that promoting our content at the beginning wasn’t a good idea at all. It gave us some false ideas of how well it was going.
- We’re still losing followers on YouTube, and our views are very unpredictable and just in general, bad. This means we’re still a long way from being monetized on the channel.
Short Travels
We kicked off the month in the best way we know how – with a little adventure. We went on a city trip to Budapest with the family. It felt wonderful to spend quality time with our loved ones and explore a new destination without being solely focused on creating content. While we did capture some moments on camera, it wasn’t our main priority. Even though it was only three days, we really enjoyed the time off.
Somewhere in the middle of the month, we left on another hiking trip we were really excited about and couldn’t wait to capture for you. This time, instead of boarding a plane, we opted for a three-hour drive to reach our destination. Our chosen trail was the Mullerthal Trail, located in the heart of Luxembourg. It’s about 112km (69 ½ miles) long, but we decided to give ourselves a real challenge and hike it in only 3 days. That meant we had to hike about 40km (24 ¾ miles) every. single. day. Needless to say, we were absolutely exhausted by the end of it. We chose to do this hike in three days to prepare for a crazy adventure happening next month, but it ended up being one of our favorite hikes ever.
During one of our “board meetings”, we talked about our plans for the rest of the year, and it became clear that traveling every month is a hassle. So we decided not to travel on a monthly basis anymore, and will try to balance it better.
The Gratitude Challenge
We also started a new challenge this month: exploring gratitude as a whole. While our family trip already gave us countless reasons to be thankful, the challenge was about appreciating even the small and ordinary things we often overlook. We both really enjoyed this challenge, as it forced us to focus on more positive things throughout the day.
Lately, we’ve been plagued by doubts regarding our presence on social media. We frequently discuss how things are going and how we’re feeling, and the uncertainty of what lies ahead fills us with fear. However, two things are sure: We love what we’re doing now, and we don’t want to work for someone else ever again.
Sometimes it’s difficult to find the balance between work and play, or work and private life, but we’re figuring it out as we go.
The gratitude challenge really helped us to stay positive this month, despite the doubts. We’ve been consistently posting our reels/shorts, even though they take up more time and work than we expected, and we’re still enjoying the work we’re doing. So in that way, we’re grateful for the gratitude challenge.
Future Endeavors
For now, we’ll keep on doing what we’re doing. But we have decided on a new challenge for next month – or more accurately, the next two months. We decided to make the next challenge a special edition and give ourselves two months to see the results. Curious to know what we’ll be doing this April and May? Check out our big reveal!
We also impulsively decided to participate in a half marathon happening in April. Our running progress has been better than expected, so when some friends mentioned their participation, we jumped at the opportunity to join them.… Wish us luck 🤞🏼
Hey you, are you still with us? If you’ve got any suggestions or thoughts, drop them in the comments and we’ll make sure to respond!
